A periodontal therapy is the first step after the detection and diagnosis of some periodontal conditions, which is:

  • Oral hygiene instructions – brushing techniques, types of tooth brush, auxiliary agents (dental floss, interdental brushes, mouth wash, toothpaste etc).

  • Cleaning and polishing the teeth above and below the gums, reducing the amount of bacteria in the periodontal pocket.

  • Scraping and polishing the root area below the gumline – Deep scaling and root planning

  • The scraping and polishing procedure involves removing plaque buildup, bacterial plaque, bacterial toxins, diseased tissue on the root surface of the tooth and the surrounding soft tissue of the dental pockets.

These non-surgical procedures are performed by hand and dental instruments under local anesthesia. Dental scaling can take several visits required tocleanse the dental pockets from bacterial deposits and their harmful products.

By eliminating the harmful deposits it reduces the destruction of soft tissue and reduces dental pockets.

Shallow dental pockets are not a good condition for bacterial growth, which results in improved periodontal health.

The earliest therapy results can only be evaluated after 6-8 weeks. It is then when it’s decided whether the patient enroles in the system of dental checkups (maintenance phase) or when additional surgical procedures are required for the purpose of bone regeneration or elimination of the pockets.

At our dental clinic Orto-Nova, we perform all periodontal surgery procedures with minimally invasive methods and therefore minimal post-operative discomforts

The surgical procedures are done in consultation with the patient and according to treatment plan.

They may include:

  • reduction of periodontal pockets

  • tissue and bone regeneration

  • gingival remodeling

  • crown lengthening

  • live-tissue and bone transplants

It is essential to maintain high quality oral hygine after the treatment as well as regular check-ups in our dental medicine centre Orto-Nova.
